Citizen Leaders: Growing the Community from Within
Leading the way to dynamic and vibrant communities. Are you a social services sector volunteer or employee on the Sunshine Coast looking to grow your ability to contribute in meaningful ways to your community? Do you want to learn how to be a leader in a style that aligns with your values and those of your organization? Would you like to develop your understanding of how non-profit organizations function to secure a new job or become more effective in your current role? If so, this micro-credential is for you!
This course was developed by Capilano University in partnership with Sunshine Coast Community Services Society, Open Door Group/Work BC, and the Sunshine Coast Regional Economic Development Organization. Financial support provided by the B.C. Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training.DETAILS: Bootcamp format: Three 6-hour, in-person courses. There will be one hour for lunch. WHEN: Courses run on May 27, June 3 and June 10. WHERE: Courses are held at the kálax-ay Capilano University campus in Sechelt, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Food Sense: Healthy Cooking on a Budget
Want to learn more about healthy cooking on a budget? Join our Food Skills for Families program - a free six-week program that is all about developing your food skills, having fun and eating!
We will cook simple nutritious meals, learn to read nutrition labels and tour a local grocery store, and cook yummy, healthy recipes such as hummus, kale salad, roasted veggies, quesadillas, granola bites, veggie fritters, homemade pizza and apple crisp.WHEN: Thursdays, May 17 - June 21, 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm. Song, Story and Rhyme Fun
Discover the power and pleasure of rhymes, songs and stories. Our musical volunteer, Lea, will lead us through five weeks of music and rhyme. Connect with your children and spend time together singing, playing instruments!

Dads Matter is an 8-week program for fathers looking to up their fathering game. You want to be the best Dad you can be and we are here to help you achieve that goal. Come meet other fathers in the community and learn:
- about the change in the fathering role
- about the importance of fathers
- developmental stages
- how to set a good example
- effective discipline without punishment
- how to enhance the connection with your child(ren)
- about your own reactions and how to gain more control
Early Childhood Educator Information Evening
Are you interested in a rewarding career working with young children? Learn what's involved in becoming qualified as an Early Childhood Educator. Find out about the different program options available and funding you might qualify for through WorkBC and the Early Childhood Educators of BC. ECE Programs are flexible and you can choose from part-time or full-time study, online or in class or a combination of both. Snacks and refreshments provided. 1.5 hour Pro-D certificates are available.WHO: This is open to everyone. Child care providers interested in options for their staff are welcome to attend. Nature and Nurture Workshop - Celebrating Child Care Providers
Please join us for a planting workshop where each participant will create a beautiful planter full of annual flowers. We will also investigate the BC Early Learning Framework and how planting can be included in our Living Enquiries in our centres. No need to bring anything! We will supply the flowers, soil, and pots. We will also provide lunch to all participants. 2 hour Pro-D certificates are available.WHO: Child care providers and other early childhood professionals. Arrowhead Clubhouse is a place where people living with mental illness can come to learn skills, get support and build relationships in a safe, stigma-free environment. At the Community Services Thrift Store, you can find all sorts of gems! We are a social enterprise and not-for-profit and operate with the dedication of volunteers. Every dollar at our Thrift store goes directly toward supporting SCCSS programs and participants.WHEN: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The Youth Outreach team support folks 13-23 to connect with resources they need and to increase personal safety. You will find them out and about in the community at beaches, shopping malls, skate parks, community centres and more, hosting events and being there to support youth. Need to talk? Gender Diverse Network
An all ages community space for local and gender diverse folks to connect and share. The drop-in is on the second Thursday of every month from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Sechelt Youth Centre, 5538 Shorncliffe Avenue, Sechelt and snacks are provided. Queer Youth Drop-In

Child and Family Counselling provides individual and group counselling for families, children, youth and adults. We use a collaborative approach, build on strengths to develop positive relationships, helping families find their best solutions.
Y Mind - Learn to Cope with Stress
Everyone experiences worries and stress. Y Mind is here to help young people learn how to cope with stress so they can live their best lives.
