Our Living Wage Employer commitment
Sunshine Coast Community Services Society (SCCSS) is proud to be a certified Living Wage Employer, reaffirming our commitment to fair pay, dignity at work, and a stronger Sunshine Coast.
The current Living Wage for the Sunshine Coast is $26.42 per hour, reflecting the real cost of living in our region – including housing, food, transportation, childcare, and other essentials. Building on our 2024 commitment, when the updated Living Wage rate was announced last fall, SCCSS ensured all staff continued to earn at or above this level.
Paying a living wage is about more than meeting minimum standards. It’s about recognizing the value of the people who support our community every day and ensuring they can meet their basic needs without constant financial stress.
Why the Living Wage matters on the Sunshine Coast
Across BC, many working people earn wages that don’t keep pace with the rising cost of living – particularly in communities where housing costs continue to climb. Living Wage Employers are part of the solution, helping to strengthen local economies and reduce the pressures that working poverty places on individuals, families, and community services.
Research shows that paying a living wage benefits everyone:
- Workers experience greater stability, peace of mind, and a sense of being valued
- Employers see improved recruitment, retention, and morale
- Communities benefit when people are able to spend more locally and rely less on crisis supports
“When people earn enough to live in the community they serve, everyone benefits,” Catherine Leach, ED, SCCSS.
SCCSS is proud to stand alongside other Living Wage Employers on the Sunshine Coast who are committed to fair wages and community well-being. While this has been part of our internal practice for some time, we’re proud to name and celebrate it now.
