16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence

From November 25 to December 10, join us and communities across Canada for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence - a time to stand together, raise awareness, honour survivors, and call for lasting change.

Did you know?

  • Every 6 days a woman in Canada is killed by her intimate partner.
  • 1 in 3 women will experience physical or sexual violence in her lifetime.
  • 6,000+ women and children sleep in shelters every night because home isn’t safe.
  • Indigenous women are 3× more likely to experience violence.
  • Only 5% of sexual assaults are reported to police.

Purple Shirt Day – November 26

On Wednesday, November 26, SCCSS invites schools, businesses, and community members to wear purple as a visible stand against gender-based violence.

Wearing purple is a simple act with a powerful message:

  • We believe survivors.
  • We support safety, respect, and dignity for all women and girls.
  • We are a community that does not tolerate violence.

How to take part:

  • Wear purple at work, school, or in your business on Nov 26
  • Share photos using #TogetherAgainstViolence
  • Display purple ribbons, lights, or window posters

Purple Shirt Day is part of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global call to raise awareness and inspire change — here on the Coast and around the world.

Together Against Violence programs

If you need help, we are here. You are not alone.

Millions of women experience abuse in relationships. Abuse affects women of all ages, economic standing, ethnicities and backgrounds. Building safety and hope

For more than 50 years, we have provided safety, shelter, counselling, outreach, and advocacy through our Together Against Violence programs.

To expand this work, SCCSS is building 35 safe, affordable homes for women and children and a permanent space for violence prevention and support programs — through the Building Together initiative, now under construction in downtown Sechelt.
