Open doors to hope for generations to come

This May, explore how legacy giving can help build a stronger, healthier Sunshine Coast - today and for the future. Learn more about leaving a lasting impact through SCCSS.

May marks Legacy Giving Month,  an opportunity to reflect on how we can build a stronger, healthier Sunshine Coast for generations to come.

At SCCSS, we strengthen the conditions that support well-being, including access to safe housing, reliable food, and a sense of connection and belonging. Our work helps people move from crisis toward stability, health, and hope.

Across our community, rising housing costs, food insecurity, and social isolation continue to place pressure on individuals and families. Mental health and well-being are closely connected to these everyday realities - including where people live, whether they have enough to eat, and whether they feel safe and supported.

Discover the power of a legacy gift

When you remember Sunshine Coast Community Services Society with a gift in your will, you make a lasting contribution to a healthy, thriving Sunshine Coast.

Your legacy gift helps invest in programs, resources, and services that support some of the most vulnerable members of our community - today and into the future.

There are many ways to leave a legacy, including:

  • Bequests
  • Life insurance
  • Endowments
  • RRSPs and RRIFs

Please speak with your financial advisor or lawyer when preparing or updating your will.

Building something lasting

Legacy giving can also take shape today through Building Together, our new community hub in downtown Sechelt. This space will bring affordable housing and essential services together under one roof, including 35 homes for women and women with children at risk of violence, along with welcoming spaces that support food security, connection, and belonging.

Community members are invited to be part of this legacy through naming opportunities in the new building - creating a lasting contribution that reflects their values while helping bring these important spaces to life.

A number of naming opportunities remain, including the community kitchen, as well as other key spaces that will support safety, stability, and connection for years to come.

Community leadership in action

Local community leader and long-time SCCSS supporter Christine Chandler is helping bring the Building Together project to life.

“I’ve seen what’s possible when people come together to support their community,” says Chandler. “The community kitchen will be a place of connection and dignity. I’ve made a personal commitment to help bring this space to life, and I hope others will join me in creating something lasting for the Sunshine Coast.”

Christine has committed $50,000 toward the community kitchen and is inviting others to join her in a collective effort to fully fund this shared space.

A number of naming opportunities remain within the Building Together project for those who wish to make a lasting contribution - from spaces like the Community Kitchen to other key areas within the building.

Thinking about leaving a legacy?

Legacy giving is a personal decision, and often starts with a simple conversation about what matters most.

While we’re not financial or legal advisors, we’re always happy to share information about our work and how your legacy could make a difference. You may also wish to speak with your family or a trusted advisor as you consider your plans.

If you’d like to learn more or start the conversation, we invite you to complete a short form and connect with our team.
