Open doors to hope for generations to come

May is Legacy Giving Month - an opportunity to build a stronger, healthier Sunshine Coast for generations to come.

At SCCSS, we strengthen the conditions that support well-being - including access to safe housing, reliable food, safety, and a sense of connection and belonging. Our work helps people move from crisis toward stability, health, and hope.

Across our community, rising housing costs, food insecurity, and social isolation continue to place pressure on individuals and families. Mental health and well-being are closely connected to these everyday realities.

Building something lasting

One way this work is taking shape is through Building Together, our new community hub in downtown Sechelt.

This space will bring affordable housing and essential services together under one roof, including 35 homes for women and women with children at risk of violence, along with welcoming spaces that support food security, connection, and belonging.

Community members are invited to be part of this legacy through naming opportunities in the new building - creating a lasting contribution that reflects their values while helping bring these important spaces to life.

A number of naming opportunities remain, including the community kitchen, as well as other key spaces that will support safety, stability, and connection for years to come.

Community members like Christine Chandler are already helping bring this vision to life

Local community leader and one of the 50 Women for SCCSS, Christine Chandler is helping bring the Building Together project to life through an early investment in the Community Kitchen.

“I’ve seen what’s possible when people come together to support their community,” says Christine. “The Community Kitchen will be a place of connection and dignity, and a place where learning about food and cooking can help people build confidence and independence.”

At the heart of Building Together, the Community Kitchen is envisioned as more than a shared space. It will support food education, practical skill-building, and programs that strengthen food security while fostering belonging and long-term wellbeing.

Christine is making her commitment now as an investment in the future of the Sunshine Coast, helping to fully fund and name the Community Kitchen and encouraging a small group of like‑minded community leaders to join her in this legacy-focused effort.

Several naming opportunities remain within the Building Together project, including the Community Kitchen and other key spaces that will serve the community for generations to come.
