Home Share provides adults with a developmental disability the opportunity to share a home with someone who is contracted to provide ongoing support. This program offers individuals and families additional consumer choices and living options in service providers.

What you can expect from the program

Individuals within the Home Share not only their living space, but also their lives. In some homes the members of the household spend significant amounts of time together and are actively involved in one another’s daily activities.  In other situations, the home sharing arrangement is characterized by more independent relationships.

The program is person-centred in that it allows individuals to select a Home Share provider and home environment that meets their unique goals and preferences. Support is flexible and evolves according to the changing needs of the individual. For some, Home Share is a stepping stone to even greater independence. For others, it is an arrangement that will last for many years.

Home Sharing providers offer a high quality of care and support, and are required to undergo a thorough screening process including criminal record checks, home study and reference checks, along with a medical certificate and valid first aid certificate.
