Sechelt Visitor Info Centre
The Sechelt Visitor Centre joined the Sunshine Coast Community Services
Society family in 2004. The Visitor Centre and the Volunteer Centre
are located at the Seaside Building on Teredo Street. There are
trained Tourist Information Counsellors to help our visitors with
what they need to know for an enjoyable and successful stay on the
Sunshine Coast.
The Counsellors can give information about transportation, accommodation,
hiking, kayaking, biking, water tours, bus tours, renting a boat
or car, accessing the water taxi, dining out, visiting the arts
and culture centres, and when various events are happening on the
Coast. The Counsellors can also provide information for traveling
around BC. The Visitor Info Centre has some attractive products
for sale, from bear bells if you're planning a walk in the woods,
to T-shirts and other gifts.

Sunshine Coast Volunteer Centre
Promoting, supporting and encouraging
volunteerism on the Sunshine Coast.
Since 1979 the Volunteer Centre has promoted and supported
a vibrant volunteer capacity in the more than 400 local groups using
volunteers. A referral coordinator interviews and suggests volunteer
opportunities for people wanting to get involved in the community.
The centre also acts as a resource to organizations on effective
volunteer coordination and non-profit management, and offers a variety
of training opportunities. The Volunteer Centre maintains an up
to date directory of organizations on the their web site (see link
below).
In 2004 the Volunteer Centre partnered and relocated with the Visitor
Information Centre to form a sustainable, integrated community information
service.

Sunshine Coast Food Bank
A dedicated team of volunteers gathers stores and distributes food
to community members in need on a weekly basis. The Sunshine Coast
Food Bank (SCFB) is open every Tuesday and Wednesday from 11:00
am to 1:00 pm alternating on a weekly basis between food bank groceries
and bread and produce. Clients are eligible to pick up once each
week. The Food Bank is sustained through generous financial and
food donations from the community and the efforts of many supporters
who organize food drives and fund-raising events.
Last year the team of Food Bank volunteers gave 2,678 hours and
distributed 5,617 bags of food, an average of 468 per month. In
March 2010 during the annual Hunger Count, conducted for Food Banks
Canada, 353 adults and 164 children attended the Food Bank.

Sechelt Community Gardens
Behind the Community Services office on Inlet Avenue is a beautiful
oasis of display and vegetable gardens created and maintained by
many volunteers since ground was broken in 1992.
There is a group of community garden plots available for people
to use for a minimal fee to grow food. Members of the public are
welcome to visit the garden, and volunteers are welcome.
