2017 AGM

On July 27th, 2017 at the Sechelt Indian Band Community Hall, over 50 supporters including Board Members, staff, volunteers, members, and friends of Community Services attended the 2017 Annual General Meeting.

The event was a great success as we welcomed our newest Board Members Penny Stewart,  Jason Winkler and Crystaleen Obray and said goodbye and thank you to Gloria Lifton,  Judy Fitzgerald,  Jason Hall as they completed their two-year terms on our Board. We are so lucky to have worked with Gloria, Judy and Jason and we look forward to working closely with our newest members as well.

Following the voting in of our newest Board Members, Sue Anne, Board President, and Catherine Leach, Executive Director, presented Sunshine Coast Community Services’ 2016 Annual Report which outlines some of the incredible work that was accomplished in 2016 including the balancing of our budget and stories of successes from a few of our specific programs. Catherine Leach also released the organization’s new 5 year Strategic Plan that has been developed in consultation with staff, volunteers and the community since December. We are so grateful for the support of staff and community members who came together to ensure that Community Services is able to grow and continue to meet the Sunshine Coast’s changing needs. Please read our released Strategic Plan here.

The AGM was also an opportunity to honour one of our long-term staff members, Lynn Mackay. With over 25 years of service Lynn has been an invaluable member of our team and we wanted to take some time to thank her for her dedication. Keely Halward, Program Director, read out quotes from people Lynn has impacted during her career and also highlight some of her incredible accomplishments. One such achievement is the fact that Lynn is one of 8 women across BC who first piloted the Children Who Witness Abuse counselling program. The success of these pilot programs helped leverage funding for 41 additional programs and today there are 86 programs in the only provincial or territorial initiative with the objective of supporting children and youth exposed to violence in the home in Canada. We are so proud to have Lynn on our team and know the positive impact she makes every day to our community.

We thank everyone for attending and look forward to connecting with our incredible community members throughout the year. To learn more about becoming a member and other ways to particpate with Community Services visit here.
